When she sat down, she earned a scowl from the other three women sitting at the table, "you're always late," Carrie huffed and stabbed into her salad. She'd probably been having a hard time adjusting to being around their parents. There was always tension when the Nightingale family was in one room.

"At least she's not sneaking off with sorority girls anymore, Carrie," Amelia sipped on her glass of wine with a venomous stare. Both of her sisters were probably upset. They'd never appreciated being subdued to the wrath of their father's lectures. Usually, it would be reserved for Jessie solely, since she served as the greatest disappointment. But when she wasn't around, he picked on Carrie and Amelia's flaws instead, which of course, they didn't like.

"Your sister's going to have to stop that someday. I want grandkids and another son," their father said.

Jessie puffed out her cheeks, and leaned back in her chair. The vacation was anything but pleasure. It was a nightmare actually. Not only did she have to be on her guard while in Colombia, since she was paranoid, she had to deal with the demon himself—her father, "you're not getting another son from me," Jessie had never been afraid to answer her father with whatever was on her mind. Her days of taking his words in with closed lips were over the day she moved out of his house.

"I don't need another daughter, Jessie," his voice was as rough as waves crashing onto the shores of a beach. His level of tides varied, and he wasn't enjoying the family vacation just like everyone else, except for his wife. Gwen was the only one to find happiness with their stay in Colombia.

"Don't worry about it. I'm not getting married regardless," Jessie said.

Gwen smacked her daughter's arm, "don't worry with him, sweetheart. I want another daughter, preferably someone who loves you as much as I do."

Jessie's heart warmed, and Gwen earned a grimace from her husband, "I'm not capable of loving someone, Mom."

Carrie, Amelia and Gwen sighed. They all knew why Jessie would say something like that. But it was all in the past, and Jessie needed to let go, "sweetheart, you'll find someone. You'll get married, have kids, lots of kids."

Jessie grabbed her sister's glass of wine, and chugged it down, "I'm not looking for anything."

"Wait until you meet the right girl. Then, you'll be saying otherwise."

Jessie forced a smile to please her mother. The entire table fell silent. I just can't forget.
